Amazing dancing!

A lot  of my adventures are from hiking in the woods, paddling on lakes and rivers, or travelling the world. This post is about a different kind of adventure, in dance. Let me share a bit about it.

Flore Berne and Vincent Mok dancing at BTO Open 2023

I need to explain this particular style of dance first. West Coast Swing is an improvised swing dance done to modern music. It is characterized by its ooey gooey sensual smoothness and flexibility to dance it to a wide array of music. It is commonly danced to modern pop music. West Coast Swing is very approachable to newcomers. It is done at a walking pace, so accessible to any fitness level, in spite of being great exercise.

I’ve been dancing it for some years now. I am comfy leading, following, switching roles mid-dance, and more. Like a lot of things, you can always grow and improve at dance. At first, it can be very satisfying to go from zero to comfy dancing a new dance style. The more experienced dancers in the videos below work incredibly hard for months to dial in small improvements because of how proficient they already are. They can do some incredible things!

BTO Open 2023 took place in Ottawa from March 30th to April 2nd. This was the 3rd BTO Open event that I supported, volunteering behind the scenes. This year I did the audio systems, took photos, and video. Along with other odds and sods to help out.

The videos I filmed of the floor show are here. They are so fun to watch. What a show!

The photos I took are available here. Everyone was looking fabulous!

I hope you enjoy them!
